Departments
Connetquot JSA is subdivided into seven departments. These include Community Service, Finance, Intelligence and Research, Internal Affairs, Media, Public Relations, and Recruiting and Advertisement. Within each of these departments there is a central division and grade-based division. Each department has a primary director, deputy directors, a grade-based director (ex. 12th Grade Director of Finance), and grade-based deputy directors.
Community Service
The CHSJSA Community Service department is responsible for community service administered through the club. Such community service includes the administration of mock debates and trials, conferences, and the "Topic of the Week" program.
Finance
The Finance Department is responsible for all monetary aspects of CHSJSA. Whether it be fund-raising efforts, conference admission payments, or any other number of tasks requiring financial input, each must be handled directly by this department. Therefore this department is also responsible for charitable programs. One of which involves donations to the college fund for crew members. The primary fundraising method will be T-Shirt sales; T-Shirt designs are currently underway.
Intelligence and Research
The Intelligence and Research Department is responsible for debate research and preparation. They produce topics for debate, summaries of the topic to be debated, and instructional brochures for conferences to be hosted by CHSJSA.
Internal Affairs
The Internal Affairs Department handles all the day to day operations of the clubs. They take attendance records, monitor leadership appointments, and keep records of weekly meetings.
Media
The Media Department is responsible for photography and video recording of meetings. They also handle the creation of graphic displays and designs for brochures and conference materials. This department must coordinate with all other departments on a regular basis.
Public Relations
The Public Relations Department coordinates coverage with news clubs in Connetquot High School as well as with local news stations, online news services, and even national news sources. It is also responsible for relations with local organizations and school administration.
Recruiting and Advertisement
The Recruiting and Advertisement Department is primarily involved with increasing club membership and activity. They coordinate speeches to be given in assemblies and in classes to promote the club. So far, their effort this year have lead to about 260 active members, making CHSJSA one of the largest JSA chapters in the nation and the largest extra-curricular activity in Connetquot High School.
Connetquot JSA Outreach Program
CHSJSA has created a program designed to "increase the political activism and awareness of students across Long Island". The program is based around a conference to be held at Connetquot High School on February 6, 2009. This event will feature a short seminar on how to successfully start a JSA chapter, as well as a series of debates to demonstrate the activities of such a chapter. Students will not only learn exactly what goes into starting and running a JSA chapter, but will develop their own opinions by jumping into the political arena firsthand.
