Clyde Roy Pack is a writer who lives in Johnson County, Kentucky.
Pack, a former high school teacher, is associate editor of The Paintsville Herald, a twice-weekly newspaper where he also serves as a columnist and cartoonist. He also is the author of several books about life and culture in southern Appalachia including the memoir, Muddy Branch: Memories of an Eastern Kentucky Coal Camp.
His first book, The Best of Poison Oak, was a collection of cartoons about old-time cures and superstitions submitted by readers. His second book, Muddy Branch, was published in 2002 by the Jesse Stuart Foundation and was created to preserve the legacy of Jesse Stuart and other Appalachian writers. Muddy Branch was listed as one of the year's best regional books by the Lexington Herald-Leader newspaper in Lexington, Kentucky. Pack's most recent book, Coal-Camp Chronicles, tells more of the history of Muddy Branch, the community where he grew up. It was published in 2005 by Where? Press.
