Clive Gifford (b 1966) is a writer and journalist working in Manchester, UK. Gifford's first book was published in Britain and the United States three days after his seventeenth birthday and he produced four further books and over 50 articles while studying at sixth form college. His first books for children were published by Virgin. After a brief period as a journalist, Clive obtained an editorial post at children’s publishers, Usborne working as a Senior Editor. During seven years there, he wrote books including Understanding Science: Machines (American Bookseller’s Pick of the Lists), Soccer Tactics and cross-genre titles such as Dr. Genius and the Flask of Doom and The Murder Map Mystery. Since turning freelance in 2000, Clive Gifford has written for publishers such as Kingfisher, OUP and Macmillan.
