Greater Manchester bus route 84

Greater Manchester bus route 84 is operated by First Greater Manchester.
The route provides a service between Uppermill and Manchester running up to every 10 minutes between Grotton and Manchester. During evenings, route 184 runs an hourly service between Uppermill and Manchester and during the day on Sundays, the service extends into West Yorkshire and provides a cross-county service to Huddersfield (Monday-Saturday journeys provided by the 184.
History
The service started in October 2019, as a partial replacement to services 180 and 184, both of which were curtailed to terminate at Oldham bus station instead of Manchester. Journeys that previously ran between Uppermill or Grotton and Manchester on the 184 were re-numbered to 84, while journeys to Huddersfield would continue as service 184 and terminate at Oldham. Sunday journeys on service 184 were re-numbered to 84. In Spring 2020, the timetable was changed during the Coronavirus lockdown period and ran a service to Huddersfield 7 days a week. In September 2020, the service reverted back to running to Huddersfield on Sundays only.
Route
Manchester - Uppermill
The service begins near to Piccadilly Gardens on Oldham Street. From here, it runs out along the A62, travelling through Newton Heath, Failsworth and Hollinwood. The service then turns off the road onto Hollins Road into Oldham town centre and bus station before continuing via Lees, Grotton, Grasscroft into Uppermill, where it terminates at the turning circle near to Saddleworth School.
Manchester - Grotton
The route is the same as the other journeys only this one terminates at Grotton, Station Road.
Manchester - Huddersfield
Services to Huddersfield follow the same route to Uppermill and then follows the 184 route via Wool Road and through Diggle before returning onto the A62 Manchester Road into West Yorkshire via Marsden, Slaithwaite, Linthwaite and Cowlersley before terminating at Huddersfield bus station. The service runs every two hours Sunday daytime.
Vehicles
The main type of vehicle used on First Greater Manchester journeys on route 84 are Alexander Dennis Enviro400s, which were acquired in 2012 and originally used for shuttle services at the London 2012 Olympics, and Volvo B9TL's, which were acquired in summer 2008.
