Clitty Delish

Clitty Delish was a British drag performer who gained cult following in the 1980s and early 1990s; appearing at various venues across the UK and Ibiza . She is the alter ego of the artist David Newbold. Though drag acts are usually associated with Catty attitudes, Clitty Delish adopted a snobbish witt with which to belittle her audience. Although primarily known as an extravagant drag queen persona, Clitty has also appeared as a Lesbian male impersonator at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival billed as Delish Clitty . Altercations between Clitty and a customer at the club in Brighton led to her appearance at the Camp Camp weekender where stars such as Media:Lily Savage and HRH Regina Fong appeared. Photographs taken of Clitty Delish appeared in the British Tabloids in 1984 as a library image depicting all homosexuals as 'Men in Frocks'. The image has appeared since but not in the homophobic tone of the early 80's. Career In the early days of her career Clitty Delish was compared with American icon Divine Media:Divine with her stomach churning dress sense, which consisted of clashing neons, chintzs, pompoms and feathers, and incredibly garish make up she was a sight once seen, not easily forgotten! Clittys larger than life character (and body) and the way she was presented and portrayed as a drag queen made a huge impact on the UK drag circuit. She was and is still very widely copied and some of todays drag characters bear evidence to a previous audience attendance. By the mid 1990s, after being "Damed/Damned" whilst hosting a charity extravaganza, Clitty underwent a format metamorphise, shedding her former garish self and emerging as Aristocratic glamour puss! Gone were the outlandish clothes, in with the velvets, satins sequins and diamante. Towards the end of the 1990s Clitty underwent her second change of image and here emerged in her last guise as Dominatrix supreme! Leather, pvc, collars, cuffs, chains and thigh boots were the order of the day! Besides her stage work Clitty Delish was also a respected psychic. Her monthly horoscopes "Psychic Clit Predicts" were eagerly awaited by many. These days Dame Clitty lives a quiet life in semi retirement spending her days pottering around in her beloved vintage Porsche, lunching with ladies and rummaging through antique shops. She does however sometimes emerge from her stately abode for charitable events and to occasionally dip her toes in the water when the call the greasepaint becomes to strong! 100px 100px
