Clifford James Hayes

Clifford James Hayes is a graphic designer, based in East Sussex, England. He is also an occasional novelist and publisher, having thus far (as of mid-2010) written two 'comedic' novels, Murkmyre and Nocturnia.
He is married to Teresa Petit-Hayes, and has one daughter, Poppy.
Design Career
He worked in a variety of design roles for design and advertising/marketing agencies in London and the South-east England until 1995, when he formed Hayes Design (www.hayesdesign.co.uk). In recent years his main focus has been on design for the publishing (most notably academic publishing) industry.
Writing
In 2008 he recommenced writing fiction after a 15 year hiatus. Murkmyre, a comedic science-fiction yarn, was the first book to be published as a consequence. This was followed by its sequel, Nocturnia, in 2010. The Idiot, a semi-biographical tale about his time in the world of design and advertising, is planned for publication in 2011.
Murkmyre and Nocturnia Synopsis
Both titles chronicle the misadventures of Prince Voltron Murkmyre, the exiled heir to the Murkmyrian Empire. Both stories are set in a distant, dystopian future, where fearsome Lady Tyrants rule supreme. Ludicrous bio-engineered animals and alien creatures (such as pleasure-snails, paste-slugs, walrus-octopus hybrids and snowfrogs) roam or ravage absurd worlds. Throughout the books, Prince Voltron flits across the galaxy - evading his tyrannical mother, foul-smelling pirates and a myriad of humanoid races that bear their own personal grudges against him. Despite a seemingly endless array of disastrous circumstances, Prince Voltron (and his long-suffering slave, Plip) always seem to come out on top.
Both titles are known for their Pythonesque humour, bitching banter between the main protagonists, thinly-veiled cultural stereotypes and series of humourous illustrations.
