Clayton Crooks

Clayton Ellsworth Crooks (born October 11, 1970) is an American author and software developer. He is best known for his books on topics including software development, game development and mobile devices. Clayton began his writing career working for magazines such as Dr. Dobbs Journal, Code Magazine and Web Techniques.
Personal life
Clayton was born in Lapeer, Michigan. He attended Lapeer East High School and later married his high school sweetheart, Amy Couzens. Clayton currently resides in Knoxville, TN and is a descendant of Canadian businessman and politician, James Crooks.
Software development
Clayton has developed a number of applications and games that have been published on a variety of platforms. His games include 3D Air Hockey and 3D Duck Hunting for PC, along with a number of mobile games and apps. He developed and released the classic arcade game Karate Champ for mobile devices in 2012.
Writing career
Clayton has been published in a number of magazines and had regular columns in Web Techniques and the Tech Corner column for Newsguy. His writing has appeared in journals like Sun Solaris and Code Magazine and he's been well known for his work on Tablet PCs and mobile development techniques. He authored his first book on Visual Basic in 2001 and has written about topics including game development, mobile tools, DirectX and other programming languages. He's won several awards for his writing, and his development books have been translated to more than 20 languages. Clayton's books have been used in college courses.
