Clay Thompson (born May 4, 1992 in Venice Beach, California) is a United States Junior tennis player. He is coached by Scott Bailey and Chris Harradine. Thompson is a Sophomore at the Crossroads School in Santa Monica, California and trains at the Palisades Tennis Center in Pacific Palisades, California. Junior tennis career As a Junior, Thompson has been ranked in the top 5 ranking in the Boy's Singles 12s, 14s and 16s divisions. Playing Style Thompson's style is that of an offensive baseliner. His most dangerous weapon is his powerful and accurate first serve, which he uses to earn free points with aces/unreturnable serves or put himself into position to hit a forehand winner. Thompson will also occasionally use the serve and volley tactic on both first and second services to surprise his opponent, although he generally prefers to remain near the baseline after a serve. |
