Citymoves Dance Agency is the dance agency for North East Scotland, one of three national dance agencies, the others being Dance Base in Edinburch and Dance House in Glasgow. Citymoves aims are nurturing and supporting the work of emerging and established dance artists, groups, tutors, creators and companies, and taking a lead role in dance development in the city and the North East. At its studio in Aberdeen City Centre, citymoves houses a variety of dance classes, workshops and performance groups as well as serving to raise the profile of dance and providing an information and meeting point for dancers and choreographers. Citymoves runs a wide variety of inclusive dance activities for people of all ages and abilities, including ballet, tap, jazz, creative, contemporary, traditional and world dances and health and wellbeing classes, encouraging participation as a creative, social and life-enhancing activity.Classes and workshops in the studio attract participants from a fifty mile radius of the City. Classes and workshops are also run at outreach venues throughout Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire. Citymoves supports local and visiting professional dance artists and companies through its professional dance programme, allowing them to teach, choreograph, create and platform new work professionally in Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland and providing professional development and training opportunities. Under its Special Development Projects, citymoves supports up to four local choreographers per year, to workshop, research and create new dance work in the Aberdeen area using professional or trainee professional dancers. The professional programme includes weekly advanced classes, workshops from touring companies and artists, mentoring and local professional development, individually tailored to artists needs, and residencies with both visiting and local companies, including Janis Claxton Dance and Ani Tchakmakdjian. Recently the programme included a 4 day integrated dance project with Indepen-Dance and a professional development week with Steinvor Palsson. Citymoves runs the DanceLive Festival season of contemporary dance in October and November, which includes the Fast + Dirty Lab high-level workshops providing groups of creative performing based artists with space and support to create 3 new site specific works in Aberdeen City.
