Cibola Burn

Cibola Burn is a 2014 science fiction novel by James S. A. Corey (pen name of Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck). It follows the crew of the Rocinante as they join the flood of humanity out into the galaxy, using the gates built by the ancient civilization that also produced the protomolecule. It is the fourth book in The Expanse series.
Synopsis
Cibola Burn follows the character of Jim Holden, captain of the former Mars corvette Rocinante, as humanity surges out into the galaxy using the network of gates, investigating what destroyed the ancient civilization which built the gates and hurled the protomolecule into the Sol solar system. As with the settling of the American West, the frontier into which the settlers venture is vast, uncontrolled, and full of dangers, not least of which is politics. Landing on one particular planet sets the settlers at odds with a corporation claiming the official rights to it before a terrible disease strikes the world. Holden and his crew, aided by the otherworldly presence of Detective Miller, must brave the quagmire as they search for a cure.
