Charles "Chuck" V. Shiflett, Jr. has writen a weekly column for the Cartersville Daily Tribune News in Cartersville, Georgia since 2004. Topics include political and social opinion, local issues, and general discussion from a Southern Republican/Libertarian perspective, all with a touch of humor and southern genteelism.
A native of Cedartown, Georgia, Shiflett is a 9th generation Georgian; former chairman of the Bartow County Board of Education; Republican nominee for State Senate in the 52nd District in the year 2000; former communications director of the Georgia Republican Party; and a business owner.
He has managed and/or worked on numerous Republican political campaigns from local offices to U.S. Senate. In 1994 Shiflett became the first Republican elected to office in Bartow County, Georgia in known history... winning a seat on the Board of Education.
Though he is a conservative, readers of his columns appreciate his willingness to take on both conservatives and liberals when warranted.
Shiflett is married to the former Sandra King of Bartow County, Georgia. They have two sons.
