Christopher Holt

Christopher Holt (born 20 June 1971) is an Australian visual artist. Holt's current projects include Queen Elizabeth II, a study of Australia's ongoing tie to the British Monarchy. A photograph from this series has been shortlisted for the William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize 2008, Monash Gallery of Art, Melbourne []. He received his education in graphic design at Monash University, Melbourne, undertaking further study in photography at London College of Communication. In his first major photography project, Makeshift Sacred Space (with Pierluigi Rossi, published by Photoworks, UK, 2005), Holt investigated cultural adaptations of space in the urban environment through the portrayal of temporary Islamic prayer rooms in central London. In 2006 Holt exhibited Chapman Street, a series of 20 works documenting the now demolished houses of a street in Sydney's Inner West. The photographs are a further investigation into reclaimed space and an exploration of lost architectural identity.
