Chris V. Rey

Chris V. Rey (born August 15, 1977) is an American politician who is currently serving as the Mayor of Spring Lake, North Carolina. Elected in 2011 and having no previous elected experience, he is the youngest mayor to be elected in the town's history.
Rey attended East Carolina University on a full athletic scholarship in 1995. In 2000, he enlisted into the United States Army as a Computer System Operational Analysis. He later was Commissioned a Second Lieutenant into the Signal Corps upon graduating from Army Officer Candidate School. Chris was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the First Cavalry Division and to Afghanistan with 3rd Special Forces Group in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He is the recipient of numerous military awards to include the Bronze Star. After being honorably discharged he attended William & Mary Law School; Rey returned back to his hometown of Spring Lake, NC after law school and won an upset victory for mayor, defeating five-term incumbent Ethel Clark.
Early Life and Education
Rey was born in St. Thomas, U.S.V.I, but his family moved to Spring Lake, North Carolina when he was 11 years old. Rey attended Cumberland County Schools where he was a track & field stand out at Pine Forest Senior High in Fayetteville, NC. After graduation Rey attended East Carolina University on full track athletic scholarship. He became a student leader serving as a Chancellor Leadership Fellow, Student Government Association, Student Athlete Representative, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc and multiple community activities in the Greenville, NC area.
