Chris Rowley is an artist and adventurer who was born in Mesa, Arizona in 1950. His work is notable in the Tempe/Mesa/Phoenix areas of Arizona. His most massive piece can be found at the Phoenix Zoo near the zoo's entrance. It is known as "The Tree." It is an 18-foot-by-18-foot tree made out of more than 10,000 feet of square iron bar and weighs approximately 3,000 - 4,000 lbs. The project took 7 years to complete. The tree can be seen as you come and go from the zoo or at the East Valley Tribune's page. Rowley is also known for his work in Panama in the canal zone, leading river rafting trips around the world, and for his husbandry of exotic animals, particularly of exotic birds. Finally, Mr. Rowley is the owner of the Byron Redden House in Tempe, AZ which is on the National Landmark of Historic Places Register for Maricopa County. |
