Dr Chris Henshall has been Pro-Vice-Chancellor for External Relations at the University of York since 2005. He leads the University's work in promoting innovation and enterprise and in forging local, national and international relationships. Key partnerships include: Science City York, with the City of York Council; Higher York, with other HE and FE institutions in York; the White Rose University collaboration, with Leeds University and Sheffield University; the N8 Northern Universities; and the Worldwide Universities Network. He was previously at the Office of Science and Technology in the Department of Trade and Industry with responsibility for the UK Science Budget, worth £3 billion a year; and for funding bodies such as the UK Research Councils, the Royal Society, the British Academy and the Royal Academy of Engineering. Before that he worked in the Research and Development Division of the Department of Health, where he managed the £500 million a year NHS and Department of Health research portfolio, at the Medical Research Council, the Health Promotion Research Trust and at the Universities of Southampton, of Warwick and of Maryland.
