Chris E. Janicek

Chris Edward Janicek (born February 22, 1972) is a businessman, property investor and a political candidate from Nebraska. A former U.S. Senate candidate in 2018, Janicek was the Democratic Nominee for U.S. Senate in the state of Nebraska in 2020. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
Early life and education
Janicek was born in David City, Nebraska. He attended Archbishop Ryan High School in Philadelphia and the University of Nebraska Omaha. He has a degree in political science.
Career
Janicek is a small business owner, businessman, property investor, and baker. He runs Chris Janicek's Cake Box and Cupcake Omaha.
Political Career
2020 U.S. Senate race
Janicek first ran for the US Senate in 2018. He lost in the primary to Jane Raybould. Raybould eventually lost to the incumbent Deb Fischer. In 2020 he announced his candidacy. He won the primary against Angie Phillips and Alisha Shelton.
Scandal
On the day, June 16, 2020, Janicek lost the support of the Nebraska Democratic Party after allegations of sending sexually explicit text messages about a female campaign staffer and allegedly using racist slurs to insult a guest at a party 20 years ago surfaced. Even with allegations behind him, Janicek refused to drop out of the race and his name remained on the ballot in the general election. His challengers have repeatedly called for him to resign from the nomination.

In the general election on November 3, 2020, Sasse defeated Janicek. Janick conceded the race in a speech that night and on his Facebook account.
Personal life
Janicek's bakery's, Cupcake Omaha has been open since 2013 and Chris Janicek's Cake Box since 1998. He is Catholic.
