Chicano vendido

A Chicano vendido (Spanish for "sold Mexican-American") is a pejorative term for an American of Mexican descent who assimilates into mainstream American culture. It is similar in nature to the pejorative terms Uncle Tom (for African Americans), self-hating Jew (for Jews) and race traitor (more generally). Chicanos were originally a mass label for all U.S. citizens of Mexican descent; vendido means sellout. The term was popularized in the 1967 theater play Los Vendidos, but even before the Chicano Movement of the 1960s, Mexican Americans who were able to "escape" from the barrio were targets of ridicule and parody and known as vendidos.
In Chicano literature, Chicano vendido stereotypes are unrepentant and shameless betrayers of their own "race."(Mexican is not a race though the term Chicano is often applied specifically to dark-skinned mestizos.)
Vendido also is a term used by Mexicans living in Mexico towards Mexicans that immigrate to the U.S, meaning that they abandon their homeland and sometimes even culture to live in the United States and portray its culture.
