Chester Bankston (June 9, 1945-present) is the Hamilton County Commissioner for District 9. Bankston was elected in 2010; he had previously served on the Board of Education. Political positions In 2015 Bankston served as the Chairman of the Hamilton County Commissioners. In Ditrict nine there is a statue is of Confederate General Alexander P. Stewart. The statue has been in place since 1918. In 2017 Chester Bankston has stated that he is adamantly against the statue's removal. In 2019 he was in favor of rebuilding the press box at Ooltewah High school. Bankston said the press box was in such bad shape that someone could get killed. The County Commission shot down the plan. Work in the Community He is known for his work within many committees including, the road committee, waste committee, energy committee, zoning committee(chairperson), the security and corrections committee, the education committee, and the delinquent tax property special committee.<ref name=hamilton /> Bankston started as an electrician many years ago, owning a company called "CB Electric" for 42 years (1969-2011). Within that time frame he worked as an electrical supervisor for the Hamilton County Department of Education (1983-2006).
