Cheng Yong

Cheng Yong (b.1983, Yingkou, Liaoning Porvince) is a Chinese painter. In 2006, he graduated from LuXun Academy of Fine Arts, one of the leading art academies in north-east China.
During his college study focusing on classical art with great passion, Cheng Yong had engaged in deep exploration and study in the artworks of traditional western oil painters, the acquisition from which has laid the stable foundation for his art afterwards. In recent years, with devotion and diligence, he has created a large number of artworks with serious and rational attitude and has initially formed his unique style of art.
Work
There is mostly one figure in Cheng Yong’s paintings. Inside those paintings, he is all alone talking to himself, seeming to totally ignore the outside world. Besides himself, there is also a female figure with long hair curling up like a cocoon, so as to hide herself from the clamor of reality into her inner world.
With the stable composition, the elaborate and detailed description, and the tranquil and solitary atmosphere in his paintings, Cheng Yong consoles the heart in a peaceful way in the modern world of impulsiveness and clamor. “The acme of visual art lies in expressing the emotions which are hard to specify with specific figures.” Conveying the concept with reproduction and presenting the emotions in a rational way, Cheng Yong’s artworks are both illusory and realistic.
Through personal perception, Cheng Yong deconstructs the real and rational life and reconstructs it in his paintings so to suit the purpose of his art. He prefers to assemble into an imagination-evoking illusory situation the images from different times and spaces and those between the old-fashioned and the fashion, which are irrelevant to each other or which even oppose mutually. In his paintings, where the elapsed cultures and modern civilizations meet collision, the artist has found release of sensitive and gloomy emotions deep in his heart and sublimation of his inner world. With the expression of photorealism, the exact lifelike depiction of the besmirched old tiles and the rusty old doors and windows takes the audience back into the hard reality, which also places material carrier for the imaginary emotions.
