Chas Lee

Charles K. "Chas" Lee is an American criminal who embezzled over $100,000 from a Boston-area charity in 1991 and 1992, while a junior at Harvard University. He pleaded guilty in 1993 to the crime, which involved writing checks on the accounts of The Jimmy Fund, a cancer research charity, and using the funds to "travel, eat at fine restaurants, and purchase fancy clothes and stereo equipment".
Lee had co-chaired a charity ice-skating event run by The Jimmy Fund. Together with the event's treasurer, David Sword, Lee took the funds raised at the event for themselves. Lee pocketed $120,000 and Sword took $6800.<ref nameMasters/> The embezzlement was discovered when they passed their positions on to new students, who were unable to reconcile the fund's books.<ref nameAlbany/>
Lee pleaded guilty to the embezzlement charges and was sentenced to 4 to 5 years in prison (all but one year suspended) and ordered to pay full restitution to The Jimmy Fund. Lee was also sentenced to 100 hours of community service during each year in which the balance of his restitution remains unpaid.<ref name=Albany/>
