Charlie Wiederhold

Charlie Wiederhold (also known as wieder) is an American video game developer known for his involvement in the first person shooter industry and community. He is currently an associate producer at Gearbox Software working on an untitled Aliens FPS, but has also done level design and programming.
In 2009 Charlie Wiederhold relocated to LA and began working for Inifinity Ward on Modern Warfare 2.
Charlie started work in the Game field by doing Commercial Addons, primarily with companies like Sunstorm Interactive. Charlie was then hired by Ritual Entertainment where he did level design and scripting on Sin and helped with early design on FAKK2. In 1998 he moved to 3D Realms to work on Duke Nukem Forever where he became well known for his personal involvement with the fans and dedication to supporting the game even though it was delayed for years. There was a stir caused when Wiederhold and others left 3D Realms, some going to Gearbox Software together. This was notable due to Charlie being the one DNF team member who interacted frequently with the community, his eight years of work put into the project, and was a self professed Duke Nukem fanatic. The departure(s) seemed to some as an indication of problems at 3D Realms. Charlie gave assurances his departure was a personal choice because he was ready for something new and that "It's not worthwhile to speculate on where DNF is" based on the news.
Charlie was also responsible for organizing and releasing the Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior source code, thus allowing the community to breathe new life into those games.
