Charles Dumas is a British author and economist. He currently works as TS Lombard's Chief Economist. In terms of his career, he has worked as an investment banker and a journalist, as well as being an economist. As a writer, he has written several books including 'The Bill from the China Shop' (2006), 'Globalisation Fractures: How Major Nations' Interests are now in Conflict' (2010) and 'Populism and Economics' (2018). Additionally, he has worked for The Economist as a journalist and has written numerous freelance articles.. Charles became the Chief Economist at Lombard Street Research in 2005. Dumas' most notable forecast was of the GFC in 2006-07, based on the savings-glut concept he had originated in 2004. One of his most notable subsequent calls was for only weak recovery from the financial crisis in 2010 - 2015, specifically because the Chinese recovery was dependent on policies that would cause financial problems and radically slower growth, and that energy and commodity prices would have to fall substantially. In 2011, Charles forecast the return to American primacy in the world economy, and in 2016 he forecast that the US would recover from its slowdown, and would not relapse into recession.
