Cathy Guerriero

Catherine Guerriero is an American politician, a professor of education policy, and a business consultant. She is currently running for New York City Public Advocate in the 2013 city elections.
Early life and education
Guerriero, the oldest of six children, grew up in Staten Island and Brooklyn, New York, as the daughter of two New York City public school teachers. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and Curtis High School in Staten Island. Following college, Guerriero received a Master of Public Administration degree at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University (NYU), and a Ph.D. in educational administration from the NYU Steinhardt School of Education.
Career
Guerriero began working as a senior adjunct professor at Teachers College, Columbia University in 2001, teaching courses in education and politics. She also serves as a senior adjunct professor at the Steinhardt School of Education at NYU. In 2013, Guerriero received the NYU Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Faculty Award, a university-wide honor. Guerriero has also received faculty honors at Teachers College as well. Since 2009, Guerriero has run a strategic planning consultancy for small business owners and non-profit organizations, and has done pro bono work for the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce for women business owners.
Guerriero served as Director of Strategic Planning for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York in 2005-2008. She also served as the Director of Government Relations for Catholic Charities in 2003-2005. In 2008, when serving as associate director for the Archdiocese of New York, Guerriero oversaw the logistics of the papal visit of Pope Benedict XVI.
Public Advocate campaign
In July 2012, Guerriero officially announced her candidacy for New York City Public Advocate in the Staten Island Advance, where she declared that her campaign would focus on the issues of education, housing, union protection and advocacy for small business owners. As of August 2013, the campaign has received more than 40 endorsements from unions, including the police and firefighters' unions and New York's religious leaders.
Personal life
Guerriero currently lives in Manhattan with her husband, Anthony Vincent Bova, and daughter, Annarose.
