Political activities During many events in 2007 and 2008, Carol has joined her husband on his nationwide campaign trail. Carol can often be seen standing closely over the shoulder of her husband during his campaign speeches in support of his presidential run.
Carol has stated that "it pains heart to hear husband booed or criticized by rivals during debates" but "takes pride in his attitude".
Carol put together a list of recipes and photos from the large Paul family into a cookbook, originally for 14th district constituents. The book reached five editions and inspired a family "Recipe of the Week" on Paul's Congressional campaign website.
Health Carol was hospitalized for a pre-existing heart condition on August 11, 2007 shortly before the voting for the Ames Straw Poll had began. Carol reportedly had experienced an irregular heartbeat that morning and her heart rate had dropped dangerously low. After a cardiogram, her condition stabilized and the following morning she underwent surgery to have a pace maker implanted and succesfully recovered immediately after.
