Carlos Vergara

Carlos Vergara is the weekend anchor at WCAV-TV in Charlottesville, VA. He previously worked for Ebru TV in the New York City area. Carlos has also worked as a general assignment television news reporter at WTVJ, an NBC owned and operated station in Miami where he reported on daily news events in South Florida.
During his time in Miami, Carlos covered such high profile stories like the death and funeral of Anna Nicole Smith, Super Bowl XLI, the Miami Heat NBA Championship Series, the continuing hunt for a man-eating alligator, and for MSNBC, an armed hostage stand-off at the Miami Herald newspaper building.
Vergara has worked in other U.S. television markets including Yuma, AZ, Salinas CA, and Corpus Christi TX. During his time on the west coast, he covered numerous illicit drug and illegal immigration stories that took him south-of-the-border at the invitation of Mexican federal authorities.
Carlos has interviewed presidents George W. Bush and Jimmy Carter, as well as United States Senators John McCain (AZ), Jon Kyle (AZ), and Vice Presidential Candidate Joe Leiberman (CT), all on live television.
The 2004 presidential debate in Arizona allowed Carlos to interview major politicos like Bush Campaign Chairman Ken Mehlman, Chief political adviser Karl Rove, Jesse Jackson, former HUD secretary and San Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros, former Governor's James Florio (NJ), Zell Miller (GA), Bill Richardson (NM), and Janet Napolitano, (AZ).
Among his most memorable interviews: A Las Vegas backstage chat with Colombian pop sensation Juanes, and a sit-down talk with California Congressman Sonny Bono over the Southern California water shortage two weeks before his tragic skiing death.
Carlos is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. Carlos is an honorable Life-time member of Instituto de Cultura Hispanica in Corpus Christi. The board graciously honored him with a special presentation in 2002, when they announced September 26 as Carlos Vergara Night in Corpus Christi.
His cousin is the Colombian supermodel Sofia Vergara.
