Overview
Carbon Literacy refers to having a general understanding or awareness of the concepts, causes, and the effects of atmospheric pollution or greenhouse gases on the environment, and the potential longterm impact on the climate of earth as in climate change or global warming. It also includes having the knowledge and skills necessary to limit or reduce these impacts, i.e. carbon footprint, on the environment through more efficient and wise use of current and future resources and energy.
Carbon Literacy also refers to having the overall understanding of and possessing the necessary skills to participate in carbon trading systems and platforms which focus on financial incentives and investments in new methods, systems, and technologies that limit or reduce environmental pollution, as in carbon capture or carbon sequestering technologies, and the development of alternative energy sources.
