Camp Manitou for Boys

Camp Manitou is an all-boys summer camp in Oakland, Maine, and one of the oldest in the state. It is ACA (American Camp Association) accredited. It was founded in 1947 by Henry and Sis Marcus.</b>
The camp has an average intake of about 300 boys aged 8 to 15 years, and takes enrollments nationally and internationally. It has a 120 person staff, of which about 40 represent countries from outside the United States. Manitou is owned by Jon and Sara Deren and David and Lisa Schiff. Jon Deren is board member of the America Camp Association New York/New Jersey chapter.
Activities
Camp Manitou is part of the Central Maine Camp League (CMCL), competing with Androscoggin and Caribou and others camps in sports, including baseball, soccer, tennis, basketball, archery, and swimming.
Land sports take place on its four baseball fields, two soccer fields, three basketball courts, nine tennis courts, archery and rifles ranges, and a climbing tower. A recent addition to sport facilities is Alumni Hall, with a college regulation-sized basketball court, weight room, band room and recreation areas.
Water sports include competitive and instructional swimming, sailing, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, waterskiing and wakeboarding.
Manitou offers programs in the creative arts including art, woodworking, pottery, painting, and music. Manitou has a 400 seat theater that produces 5 shows during the seven-week summer session.
