Camp 30

Camp 30 is the second book in the Camp X series written by Canadian author Eric Walters. The book is based on the Bowmanville POW camp also known as Camp 30 and the escape attempt called Operation Kiebitz. The novel is about brothers Jack and George learning and enduring Camp 30 when they had accidentally discovered a prisoner escape plan. They were held as hostages and tries to stop the escape.
Plot Summary
Jack and George had been relocated to Bowmanville, Ontario to keep the brothers safe. Their mom now works at Camp 30, also called the Bowmanville POW camp, holding over 500 German prisoners, most were high-ranking officers. Jack and George get a job delivering the letters to the camp and quickly befriend one of the prisoners there called Otto Kretschmer (based on Otto Kretschmer). But before long they discover the prisoners had dug a tunnel to outside of the camp. The boys are kidnapped as hostages and were almost shipped to Germany in a submarine before Bill and his agents from Camp X rescued them.
Characters
Although most of the characters are from the previous novel, Camp X, their character had changed significantly.
Jack Braun:
Jack is again secretly working for Camp X, keeping an eye out on suspicious activities. He has a part-time job delivering the newspapers to the prisoners at Camp 30 with his little brother George. And since the last book, Jack is still frequently teasing his little brother George.
George Braun:
George, now 12 years old is with his older brother again searching for suspicious behaviour in their mother's new work place, a POW camp called Camp 30. Although he gets nervous when he first entered Camp 30, but he and Jack quickly befriends one of the prisoners called Captain Kretschemer.
Captain Kretschmer
Captain Kretschmer also known as Otto Kretschmer was based on a real German u-boat commander with the same name, Otto Kretschmer. He was the highest ranking German Officer in the camp and was attempted to be rescued in the book, which was based on Operation Kiebitz. In the novel, he has 3 children, Bruna (16), Wolfgang (14), Peter (12). He tries to use Jack and George for his escape
