Buzzsaw Haircut is an independent periodical published by a group of Ithaca College students six times a year.

Who

Buzzsaw Haircut is entirely produced by the Ithaca College community and printed by Our Press of Binghamton, NY. It is funded by the Ithaca College Student Government Association, the Park School of Communications, and a generous grant from Campus Progress. It was founded by Ithaca College alumni Abby Bertumen, Kelly Burdick, Bryan Chambala, Sam Costello, Cole Louison and James Sigman.

What

BH is a liberal-leaning campus magazine that accepts writing from students and faculty. Buzzsaw Haircut's goal is to publish original creative journalism, commentary and satire, which works to deconstruct society, pop culture, politics, college life and dominant Western beliefs. The magazine is published with a monthly theme that directs the content of the main content section, Upfront. Other sections include News+Views, covering current events, Ministry of Cool, which includes reviews of books, music and movies as well as discussions of related pop culture topics, and Sawdust, the section for satire, cartoons and "Buzzsaw Asks Why," a short but critical look at the strange happenings on campus.

When

The magazine was founded in early 1999.

Why

The magazine exists to inspire thoughtful debate and open up the channels through which information is shared. Buzzsaw Haircut's goal is to publish original creative journalism, commentary and satire, which works to deconstruct society, pop culture, politics, college life and social norms. More to come.

• 2003 — winner, "Best Sense of Humor," Campus Alternative Journalism Project.

• 2005 — winner, "Best Independent Campus Publication with a Budget Under $10,000," Independent Press Association.

• 2005 — first place, "Political Commentary" Conservative Activism? and Scary? Yes, but Winning by Matt Corley, Kate Sheppard and Jeremy Levine, Independent Press Association.

• 2006 - winner, "Economic/Labor Coverage" A Hunger for Ethics by Julie Perng, Independent Press Association.

• 2006 - winner, "GLBT Coverage" Paradox Found by Meagan Murray, Independent Press Association.

• 2006 - winner, "Publication of the Year," Campus Progress.

Miscellaneous Info

*In October 2005 Buzzsaw Haircut published an article on open source which included an interview with 's very own Jimmy Wales.
*The current staff's love of music led to a spin-off campus group, Really Neat Concerts. RNC presents musical events for all tastes and causes.
*Buzzsaw Haircut once skipped a year of publication.
*The name "Buzzsaw Haircut" was taken from the Mojo Nixon song "Hamlet Chicken Plant Disaster."
