Burgermeister Meisterburger

Burgermeister Meisterburger is a fictional character from the Christmas TV special, ', voiced by Paul Frees. He is the central villain of the entire special. He is the grouchy, fun-loathing burgermeister (mayor) of Sombertown, and has a German accent. He hates toys and passes a law declaring toys illegal in Sombertown after he trips on one. After Meisterburger finds out that Kris Kringle is frequently delivering toys to Sombertown, he stops at nothing to capture Kris and stop him from bringing fun and play to the gloomy city. Meisterburger arrests Kris and the other Kringles (and the Winter Warlock), but Miss Jessica, who later becomes Mrs. Claus, sets them all free with the help of the reindeer. Burgermeister Meisterburger vows to hunt Kris down throughout the land, and labels Kris an outlaw. Later, toward the end, it is revealed that he and the other Meisterburgers died off and fell out of power. They eventually sank into obscurity after the people of Sombertown realized how silly their laws really were.
