Bundesservice Telekommunikation

Bundesservice Telekommunikation (also BST, German for Federal Telecommunications Service) is said to be a federal agency in the domain of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community and a front organization of an German intelligence agency. Nothing is publicly known about the activities of the authority, which is based in Berlin. According to its own information, it performs tasks for the federal ministries and subordinate institutions as a service provider for the federal government. These include specialist, cross-sectional and support tasks, as well as modernization assistance in the area of information and communications technology.
History
In December 2021, German security researcher Lilith Wittmann discovered the federal service during a search. Until then, she personally was not aware of the agency. Since January 2022, the agency has had a working email address, and images of the agency's bell plates are also available since December 2021. A press spokesman for the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) said on January 17, 2022, that there is no agency with that name in the BMI's domain. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior no funds have ever been allocated to the Bundesservice Telekommunikation since its inception until 2021. Wittmann suspects that it is a front organization of an intelligence agency that falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Ministry of the Interior.<ref name="stern" />
