Bresser Optics is an international company with headquarters in Germany, Rhede, producing its own brand and partially owning several other brands of telescopes, binoculars, microscopes and other optical instruments. History The company was founded in 1957 in Germany, Borken, North Rhine-Westphalia by entreprenuer Josef Bresser and it originally funtioned as a reseller of binoculars. In 1979 Rolf Bresser, Bresser's son, took over the business. The new management began developing optical instruments in house. In 1999 the company was sold to one of the leaders on the market, the American corporation Meade Instruments. The new ownership has caused a radical technical improvement of the Bresser products in 2003. In 2007 the headquearters moved from Borken to Rhede. In January 2009 Meade Instruments Europe GmbH & Co. KG was purchased by Rolf Bresser along with Jinghua Optical + Electronics Co. Ltd., a company previously involved as the supplier. Bresser came into partial possession of the brands Coronado, previously owned entirely by Meade Instruments and Meade. The two companies, Bresser Optics and Meade Instruments, have reached an agreement on a close partnership globally the same year. The merge of the companies' facilities and enginearing resources has improved the performance of Bresser Optics turning it into one of the leaders on the market. In 2009 Explore Scientific has reached an agreement with Bresser Optics to become their exclusive distributor in the US. Brands The brand Bresser is shared among several companies: Bresser Optics, Meade Instruments and Jinghua Optical + Electronics Co. Ltd. Bresser Optics has a partial ownership of the brands Meade and Coronado. The ownership was acquired after the purchase of Meade Instruments Europe GmbH & Co. KG in 2009. Products Some of the products produced by Bresser Optics include: *Telescopes; *Binoculars; *Microscopes; *Spotting Scopes; *Night Vision Devices; *Eyepieces; *Apochromatic and Achromatic Refractors Public involvement In 2003 was opened a public observatory in Borken (Hoxfeld), named Josef-Bresser-Sternwarte commemorating the founder of the company. The observatory is equipped with a relatively large telescope MEADE LX200 16".
