Brandt Russo

Brandt Russo is a controversial, Louisiana-born Christian poverty activist and founder of the t-shirt company Can't Ignore The Poor. Russo is perhaps best known for his work in Operation:Starvation, a short-term missions project in which he raised $15,500 to fight parasitic infection in Swaziland by publicly refusing all forms of sustenance except Gatorade. Prior to his work in Operation:Starvation, he was well-known in Christian circles for his ministry among the homeless in various cities throughout the United States. This work has been criticized by some as being radical and divisive. After converting his van to operate on vegetable oil, Russo lived briefly as a homeless person. Brandt Russo has been interviewed by several prominent Evangelical publications and has appeared in two documentaries: Adopt-A-Jesus and The Ordinary Radicals.
Arrest and Controversy
In August of 2008, after complaints from the pastor of Ignited Church in Lakeland, Louisiana, Russo was arrested for trespassing after refusing to move his van from the church's premises. It was while in custody that Russo's controversial ministry style was exposed.
