Bradley Walden

Bradley Scott Walden (born January 31, 1985) is an American singer. He is currently working as the lead singer for the band Emarosa, but has been the lead vocalist for the bands Squid The Whale, and That Was Something. Walden has a baritenor vocal range and has vocal roots in soul music.
Early life
Bradley Scott Walden was born in Detroit, Michigan. It is assumed that growing up, Walden did not have a normal childhood, often referencing in many songs of his father's abusive ways and his mother's kindness.
Music career
That Was Something/The Boys Of Summer (2008-2009)
Bradley's first noteworthy band that he was apart of was called "That Was Something". He was the lead vocalist/co-vocalist of the pop rock band, located in Michigan. This band was up and coming, and even had a music video featured on MTV. He flew out to be a part of the band. He came in to record their second EP, Drown But Not Out, which had success in its demographic. The band went through a shift in lineup, and they renamed themselves "The Boys Of Summer". This change was short lived, as he departed from the band shortly after this.
His departure from the band, according to a post on the Squid The Whale tumblr, Bradley did not at the time very much like the people around him or who he became. This allegedly being the reason why he quit. His original statement for leaving the band being along the lines of,
"i hate drugs. i hate play adders. and i hate music being treated like a business. so it is only fitting that i am no longer in the boys of summer."
Explaining his original statement further,
"I realize that some people see my statement as disrespectful, immature, etc. I'm an opinionated person and will use whatever platform is given to me to do express that. There were multiple factors in my leaving the band, most have already been addressed. I'm not attacking anyone, I disagree with what I feel TBOS represents. There are unbelievably talented members in that band and I hope that they continue to make music but I won't be a part of it. For months it was at the point where I knew everything I was doing was wrong but wanted it to succeed to the point where I overlooked my morals. I'm looking forward to moving past this debacle and begin making music with a purpose and not just a catchy hook. Thanks for the support."
But years later, he and the band seem to have no bad blood between them, the Facebook page of the band making a post about Bradley being the vocalist for Emarosa currently, only commenting positively about their experiences together. Even releasing the songs that they recorded with him for their upcoming project before his departure.
The Boys Of Summer went through another shift after Bradley left, and they are now known as "Strange Vacation".
Squid The Whale (2011-2013)
Bradley's time with Squid The Whale is where he came into his own as a vocalist. No longer restricting himself to typical pop punk vocals, Bradley was able to explore different singing styles, finding a fuse between soul and rock. His vocals on the EPs released by STW being often compared to that of Patrick Stump's. They had success, and were becoming a band on the rise, being popular in the community. They released two EPs, the songs being a mix of soul, funk, and rock. They also released a single that featured the lead singer of You Me and Everyone We Know, Ben Liebsch. The band was unsigned for the duration of Bradley's time as the lead singer, and still remains unsigned. This meaning that had they been signed, there would have most likely been greater success.
Bradley's departure with Squid The Whale was much more civil and calm than his with TBOS. During their touring, Bradley was approached by the band Emarosa, as they were in search for a new vocalist since their previous vocalist, Jonny Craig had recently departed from the band. Bradley initially did not accept the offer, sticking with STW despite troubles that may have been going on. Replying to them with, “You guys are great, but I have to stick it out with Squid. I owe it to them, they're my friends.” A year later, he was contacted by Emarosa's booking agent, with another request to join the band. He and STW were on tour, and things were not working out very well. Bradley finished the tour and took up the role as lead singer for Emarosa. Both Walden and the other band mates parting respectfully, releasing this statement on their Tumblr,
"We have decided to part ways with Bradley Walden. This is not a total disbandment. There needed to be a change within the group and letting him go is more than a positive one. We apologize to any of our fans who showed their love and support with the previous line up. The last thing we wanted to do was let our fans down. It’s just a change that needed to happen. We wish Bradley the best in all future endeavors."
As of recent, Bradley reunited with Squid The Whale for a reunion show for one day only at Bledfest 2015 in Howell, MI. They played a previously unreleased track, never before heard, titled "1969". It is unknown whether or not Bradley will be recording with them in the future, his name still listed as a member in the information on the official Facebook page of STW.
