BossInGame

BossInGame is a web-based economics simulator (or "business game") in which the participant takes the CEO role of a virtual business competing against other virtual businesses, in the same market and for the same customers.
Gameplay
The goal of the game is to manage a virtual business competing with other companies and obtain the higher value for the business shareholders equity. The competition is turn-based and every player has a certain amount of time to make decisions about R+D, manufacturing, sales, finance and human resources.
As the virtual business grows in size, investments are necessary like a finished product warehouse or increasing the transport fleet capacity. The player's progress is based on an Experience Points system. When a player wins a competition, he receives Experience Points as a reward for the good management. The more Experience Points a player has, the more options in the game can be used like, for instance, the Balance Sheet or Sales benchmarking.
The game does not have a specific end point; however, there are three Rankings: Business with the most Experience Points, Business with the best ratio of Experience Points per played games and Country with more Experience Points.
Scope
The scope of the game includes the management of a virtual company with 5 departments: R+D, manufacturing, sales, finance and human resources.

The research and development department aims to enhance enterprise competitiveness through the development, research and innovation of new products and technologies. Investment in R&D is a core driver of product innovation and critical to staying ahead in any changing market. Sustainability, in turn, is a lens on innovation that is becoming increasingly important in diverse industries. In competitive markets where products are mature, there is only the possibility to compete on price or product differentiation from the competition. Thus, innovation is a pre-requisite for maintaining the competitiveness of the company and this has become the main task of the department.
Manufacturing
The Manufacturing Department is responsible for providing the company with all the material necessary for its operation and the manufacturing of the finished product. It comprises a team of purchasing, logistics and transport, and their work have a direct impact on the operation of production.
Sales
The Sales department must handle three main distribution channels: Wholesalers ( and agents ), Retailers and Internet direct sale.
*Wholesalers and Agents: The product is displayed on supermarket shelves and department stores.
*Retailers: Medium-sized stores specialized in the sale of such products with a strong relationship with the customers.
*Internet direct sale: Customers have found a new channel to reach out directly to the producer. E-commerce is a distribution channel that is growing steadily in the past years. The Internet offers a large dispersed market to producers.
Finance
Proper financial management achieves a balanced growth of the company. Local banks are the only sources of financing because there is no possibility of increasing the Share capital by means of a capital injection.
Human Resources
Management of the Human Resources is very important because it allows the business to adjust the amount of manpower available to the needs of each production stage.
Forum
The game has an open forum where players can exchange opinions about the game and strategies. The forum is based on the open source technology PHPBB.
