Borgess Run for the Health of It

"The Borgess Run for the Health of It" is a famous running event that has been held in Kalamazoo Michigan since 1985. The event currently consists of a 5k walk, 5k run, Half Marathon, Full Marathon, and Kids Fun Run. It is held each year in early May.
History
The run was originally founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph (SSJ) Borgess Hospital. The original organizers was John Daley and eventually with Blaine Lam. The event started as a 10 kilometer race and toured the Spring Valley area of Kalamazoo, which is noted for its beautiful scenery. It was one of the first two official 10 kilometer races held in Kalamazoo, outdated only by the Kalamazoo Klassic.
The event was unique in that it was spearheaded by a company running team known as The Borgess Running Team. Company running teams were a new phenomena emerging in the 1980's, many accredit this to the popularity of book, Jogging. With the popularization of running, businesses and corporations began paying more attention to employee health and well being.
Following the death of John Daley, the organizers changed the events name to "The John Daley Run" in honor of its endearing founder. The name has since reverted back to its original, "The Borgess Run for the Health of It"<ref name="ReaumeMary" />
