Bobby Wilson (Pittsburgh politician)

Bobby Wilson (born circa 1983)<ref name="publicsourcenov"/> is an American politician from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has served on the Pittsburgh City Council since 2020, representing the 1st district.
Early career
Wilson earned a bachelor's degree in political science (with a minor in studio arts) and a master's degree in exercise physiology from the University of Pittsburgh.<ref name="pittnews"/> Prior to his election to Pittsburgh City Council, Wilson worked for the emphysema research lab at UPMC Montefiore.<ref name"publicsourcemay"/> He also served as president of the Spring Hill Civic League and as a board member of the North Side Leadership Conference.<ref name"pittnews"/>
Political career
Wilson ran unsuccessfully against incumbent Darlene Harris for the Democratic nomination for Pittsburgh City Council in 2011 and 2015. He ran in 2019 with the backing of Mayor Bill Peduto, SEIU 32BJ, SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania, and Planned Parenthood.<ref name"publicsourcenov"/> He received 56 percent of the vote in the May primary election, defeating Harris.<ref name"publicsourcemay"/> He then won the November general election over independent candidates Chris Rosselot and Malcolm Jarrett.<ref name="publicsourcenov"/>
Wilson has positioned himself as a "progressive," citing affordable housing and displacement as top issues, and proposing more effective partnerships between the private and public sectors as being possible solutions.<ref name"publicsourcenov"/> He has also said he would work to improve air quality in Pittsburgh.<ref name"pittnews"/> During his 2019 campaign, he advocated for expanding the police force by 200 officers.<ref name="nsforum"/>
During his time in office, Wilson has sponsored or co-sponsored bills to provide funding for the refurbishment of war memorials,<ref name"warmemorials"/> ban parking motor vehicles in bike lanes,<ref name"cpbikelanes"/> amend the city's Residential Parking Permit program,<ref name"wesaparking"/> grant bereavement leave to nonunion city employees who experience a miscarriage,<ref name"tribbereavement"/> ban single-use plastic bags,<ref name"tribbags"/> and ban the declawing of cats.<ref name"cpcats"/> He was appointed to the board of the Pittsburgh Land Bank in 2021.<ref name="pglandbank"/>
Personal life
A fifth-generation resident of Pittsburgh's North Side,<ref name"pittnews"/> Wilson lives in the Spring Hill neighborhood. He has three children.<ref name"publicsourcenov"/>
