Blueneck

The word blueneck was coined during the 1990s and can take various meanings.
Political demographic slang
The most recent use of the word "blueneck" is a term used by "red staters" or those from Red States to describe another American from a Blue State with similar conservative values. A "blueneck" is a person living in a traditional blue state such as California, New York, Maryland, Massachusetts, etc who tends to be a person in favor of a more conservative political values and holds a point of view. They are generally "out voted" in most elections due the fact that their collective voices are squelched by so many urban progressives, liberals, etc.
Political slur
In Canada, the word blueneck is a slur used with varying meaning. In some cases, it is against conservative-leaning inhabitants of the Beauce region, south of Quebec City. In other cases, it refers to sovereigntist hardliners. It is considered a slur in both (politically opposed) cases because the expression carries the connotation of the original (red neck), thus taxing the intended target of closemindedness.
Comic relief feature
On the blogosphere, the term blueneck is a recently coined corollary of redneck. It extends the traditional redneck stereotypes to more northern locations, such as Canada and Alaska, with a touch of humour, in a style reminiscent of Jeff Foxworthy (You might be a blueneck if...)
Music
In the country music community, a blueneck is a progressive redneck or a redneck who expresses a political opinion that is contrary to the one of most rednecks from the American South. States that support the Republicans are generally known as red states; the ones voting for the Democrats being the blue states.
There is also a post-rock group called Blueneck that has put out two albums of atmospheric music.
