Blue Öyster Cult Logo Blue Öyster Cult is an American rock band formed in 1967 and still active in 2007. The band has sold over 14 million albums worldwide. The hook-and-cross logo is that of Kronos (Cronus), the king of the Titans and father of Zeus in Greek mythology, and is the alchemical symbol for lead (a heavy metal), one of the heaviest of metals. Kronus was also identified in classical antiquity with the Roman deity Saturn. Sandy Pearlman, their manager at the time, considered this, combined with the heavy and distorted guitar sound of the band and decided the description "heavy metal" would be aptly applied to Blue Öyster Cult's musical sound. Symbol for Saturn: Alchemical Symbol for Lead: The logo was designed by Bill Gawlik and appears on all of the band's albums. |
