Bloodaxe (TV series)

Bloodaxe is an upcoming historical drama drama television series created by Michael Hirst and his son Horatio Hirst set in the 10th century. The series is expected to recount the true story of the legendary Viking warrior Eiríkr Haraldsson better known as Erik Bloodaxe and his wife, Gunnhild, Mother of Kings. It is reported that it will follow Erik's ascent to throne of Norway.

Development
On March 6, 2025 it was announced that Michael Hirst would return to the viking age era for his next work. reported that he and Horatio Hirst have developed a new historical drama called Bloodaxe for Amazon Prime Video. This series will be another entry in the Hirsts' Viking themed work, following his development of the popular History Channel series and his role as executive producer on Netflix's Vikings: Valhalla. Horatio had an acting roles in 4 episodes of Vikings: Valhalla as Bishop Grimketel, with Bloodaxe he will be writing for a series for the first time with Bloodaxe.
