Black Rock Shooter

(BRS for short) is a character originally conceived by the artist Huke and the title of an anime based on the character. An illustration inspired a song written by Ryo in 2008 using the vocaloid Hatsune Miku, which obtained widespread popularity among anime and vocaloid fans. The character gained further attention when figure manufacturer Good Smile Company produced a 1/8 PVC figure of the original illustration, currently set for release in mid-October, 2009. An anime adaption of the work by the animation studio Ordet is slated to be released in Spring 2010 under the same title.
The PV created by supercell (Ryo) reached 2 million views on June 13, 2009 on Nico Nico Douga. The song suggests that BRS lost something important and suffers of hopelessness and despair while trying to recover it. Through her struggles, she discovers new courage. A new 3D-PV was created later by AnomaroP, which revealed "The Dead Master" as BRS's arch-nemesis, along with other major plot points.
It is a common misconception that BRS is fanmade version of the vocaloid Hatsune Miku. It is a coincidence that the two characters have some shared characteristics, notably hair tied in twin-tails. The original character was drawn before Ryo's song united BRS with Miku's voice.
