Biman Bangladesh Flight 48

Biman Bangladesh Flight 48 departed Dubai for a regular flight to Chittagong and Dhaka, Bangladesh. Weather at the time of the crash at Chittagong was poor, the visibility was less than 2 kilometers. The aircraft crash landed on its belly 12 ft from Runway 23's shoulder.
Aircraft
The aircraft which was McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30ER registered S2-ADN made its first flight back in 1979. The aircraft was nearly 26 years old at the time of the incident. It was powered by 3 General Electric CF6-50C2B engines.
Crash
The aircraft touched down on runway 23 but ran off the right side of the runway, into the grass. The right hand undercarriage collapsed and the plane sank a meter-deep into the mud, causing the severe damage to the right hand wing and the separation of the nr. 3 engine. The airplane came to rest 7300 ft from the runway 23 threshold. the right-hand side engine got separated from the wing and caught fire as the aircraft sank into the mud. Some passengers got injuries while the aircraft was evacuated, but all of the occupants managed to escape from it safely. An enquiry found no failures with the aircraft and put the blame for the accident on the incompetence of the pilot, who was fired.
