Bill Garcia, known as "Wild Bill", is an American broadcaster. He was most recently at the CBS-owned station WUSN in Chicago.
Garcia is a veteran of Chicago radio, and has worked at many Chicago radio stations including a stint at WLS as a talk-show host, WJMK, and WFYR. He was also honored as the Midday Personality of the Year at the 2000 Achievement in Radio (AIR) Awards.
Garcia was born just outside Houston, in Bryan, Texas, and began his radio career in his junior year of high school. He hosted his first request show on "Teen Time" on KORA-AM. The owners of KORA asked him to stay on after high school, and he remained there to support his way through college. He went on to later become the Program Director and Operations Manager at KORA-AM.
An offer from KULF (CHR) in Houston led him to an on-air shift which brought him national attention. While working the afternoon drive position at Big WAYS in Charlotte, North Carolina, he met WAYS' morning personality Robert Murphy, ("Murphy in the Morning") who later went to Chicago and broadcast mornings at WKQX-FM.
Garcia took a break from the airwaves when he accepted the offer of General Manager at the cross town station, WDEX. While at WDEX, a nationwide search was formed to replace popular morning DJ, Gary Dee at Cleveland, Ohio's WHK. Garcia was offered this prestigious position and moved to Cleveland where he performed morning show duties.
At WHK Garcia hired Dan O'Shannon, who worked as a producer on Cheers and was the Executive Producer of Frasier. Shannon is currently involved in the latest ABC TV show "Better Off Ted". WHK gave Garcia his first stint in country music: "The Bill Garcia Show show drew attention in the country music industry. Chicago's country music powerhouse, US99 General Manager, Drew Horowitz flew to Cleveland where he invited Bill to be his afternoon drive personality. Garcia was on afternoons at US99 until a change in ownership led him to music station WLS in Chicago. Shortly after his arrival, WLS switched from music and Garcia became one of first talk show hosts at the new talk station.
An offer from WFYR moved Garcia back to music, at that time one of Chicago's oldies station. He also worked at Chicago's Magic 104(WJMK). While there, another offer from US99 brought him back to playing country music in Chicago. Since his return to US*99.5 he worked various daytime roles. He bills himself as "Chicago's Hardest Working DJ." He can be seen regularly at various station and charity events, nightclubs, and festivals each week.
Garcia, a resident of Chicago's northwest suburbs, is on the Board of Governors for the March of Dimes and is also active in many other charitable organizations.
