Bhavya Bishnoi

Bhavya Bishnoi (born 16 February 1993) is a third-generation political leader from
Adampur, Hisar, in Haryana and the eldest grandson of Union Cabinet Minister (Agriculture;
Environment & Forests) and three-time Chief Minister of Haryana, Ch. Bhajan Lal, and was
familiarised with, and became involved in, politics at a young age.
His parents - Kuldeep Bishnoi and Renuka Bishnoi - are currently serving as Members of
Legislative Assembly from Adampur and Hansi in Haryana, India, respectively. He has two
younger siblings - a brother, Chaitanya Bishnoi, who is a professional cricketer in IPL with Chennai
Super Kings and also represents Haryana in the Ranji Trophy, and a sister, Sia, who is pursuing
integrated design at Parsons Art and Design School, New York, USA.
Education & Early Life
At school, Bhavya excelled in both academics and the extracurricular. In grade 10, he topped Delhi-NCR in the ICSE examination with a score of 96.6%. In the same year, he represented Delhi state in cricket in the under-15 category. He has also represented Haryana state in swimming and athletics. During higher secondary school level, Bhavya topped the north Indian region with 43 points (out of a total of 45) in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. In grade 11, he was elected as the school Sports Vice Captain, and in grade 12, as the Head Boy of The Shri Ram School in Gurugram, Haryana, India.
In 2011, He joined the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK, to pursue his passion for public policy and economics, and read for a BSc in Government and Economics. Bhavya continued his deep interest in cricket and captained the LSE First XI cricket team.
Professional career
Bhavya has actively represented the aspirations of the youth when he served as the National President of Janhit Student Organisation (JSO), the student wing of Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) between July 2013 and September 2015. He advocated for issues such as the reinstatement of student elections in Haryana, better quality of education and sports facilities, equitable employment opportunities for youth, and gender sensitisation at the school level, among others. He articulated these concerns through various platforms and personally handed over a letter to the Chief Minister of Haryana in April 2015.
After completing his studies in 2016, he joined the Leadership Development Programme at The Global Education & Leadership Foundation (tGELF) where he co-founded, project managed and was the spokesperson for, Global Citizen India, a citizen-driven movement to end extreme poverty in India by 2030. The Times of India quoted, ‘The Global Citizen India movement is uniquely positioned to galvanise support from our 800 million young people on the issues that matter, to us and to future generations, which are key to tackling the challenges the world faces.’
At tGELF, Bhavya launched a movement named Shuruaat Bus, in order to identify and guide young entrepreneurs of India. In partnership with Facebook and Apollo Tyres, the Shuruaat Bus travelled through several cities, including Jaipur, Pune, Lucknow, and Hyderabad - inviting young minds to implement their ideas and make a scalable impact. Winners were offered an opportunity to receive mentorship and support from leading entrepreneurs, investors, and government leaders.
In October 2017, Bhavya founded Bhajan Global Impact Foundation (BGIF) named after and inspired by the lifeworks of his grandfather, Ch. Bhajan Lal. It is a think-and-do-tank established to tackle key development challenges in Haryana through evidence-based, solution-oriented policy design and impact intervention. So far, BGIF has taken up initiatives aimed at women empowerment (Mushkilon Se Muskaan Tak and Haq Rakshak), solid waste management (Hansi Swachhata Andolan), education (Bhajan Lal Scholarship), and environmental conservation (Planting the Seeds of Change), among others.
Bhavya has a strong belief in sustainable and inclusive development. Drawing inspiration from his roots, the Bishnoi community - the world's first environmentalists - he embarked on the Global Himalayan Expedition with 20 people from 9 countries to electrify remote villages in Leh, Ladakh using solar energy.
Bhavya was recognised for his innovative approach to politics with the launch of Team Bhavya
app which has gamified his digital campaign. Bhavya Bishnoi is likely to contest the 2019 Lok
Sabha election from Hisar, Haryana, from the Indian National Congress.
At Oxford University, UK, Bhavya completed the MSc in Contemporary India in 2016 and topped his year with distinction. He was also awarded an Oxford Blue to commemorate his excellent performance in cricket. He presented his Master's thesis, ‘Shit Stunts: Inducing Behavioural Responses to Rural Sanitation Policy in India’ at the University of Warsaw, Poland.
