Betty Bakker

Betty Bakker (born 1959) was the first professional flugelhorn player in the Netherlands.
Her father taught her to play, and by age seven she was already playing in an orchestra. At the age of 11 she had already reached the D-level and played in the Royal Dutch Band which was conducted by Piebe Bakker. After that she toured through Europe. Between 1970 and 1975 she won a lot of soloist contests and after high school she went to the school of music in Alkmaar to study the flugelhorn. After that she finished her studies in 1986 she became the first professional flugelhorn player of the Netherlands. Then she did a conducting study and she played as a soloist with a lot of famous Dutch orchestras.
Today Bakker is a brass instrument teacher and has her own music school with her husband, who is a professional saxophone and guitar player. She conducts three bands and is very famous in the world of orchestras.
