Bernard Keane

Bernard Keane is Crikey’s Canberra correspondent, writing on federal politics, media and business.
Previously, he was a public servant, beginning with stints in transport policy and as a speechwriter before he moved into communications policy, where he obtained extensive experience in Australian media regulation .
On the 21st of June 2010, Keane wrote of the Labor leadership: "News Limited made its intentions clear with a series of blatant lies in The Weekend Australian suggesting that Kevin Rudd's leadership was in effect dependant on the outcome of today's Newspoll. There is anger in caucus. But there is no mood for a leadership change." On the 24th of June 2010, after a challenge from Julia Gillard was certain to succeed, Kevin Rudd resigned the party leadership.
