Bernard Anton Bandara Goonetilleke is a former Sri Lankan diplomat. Career *In 1950 he entered the foreign Service. *From 1992 to 1997 he was Permanent Representative next the United Nations Office at Geneva, concurrently accredited next the United Nations Office at Vienna and on 13 January 1994 concurrently accredited as ambassador to the Holy See. *In 2002 following the Signing of the Ceasefire Agreement in the Sri Lankan Civil War he was appointed as Director General of the Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP) and functioned as a member of the government negotiating team. *From 2002 to 2004 he was ambassador in Beijing. *From 2004 to 2005 he was acting Permanent Representative next the Headquarters of the United Nations. *On May 26, 2005 he was appointed ambassador in Washington, D.C., where he was accredited from 12 April 2005 to 2008,20 August 2008.
