Benjamin Wan Han En (born 15 October, 1981) is a professional violinist from Singapore. Being a three time winner of the annual Singapore Violin Challenge (SVC), he is well known in the violin industries in Singapore and Paris. Wan is currently the conductor for the Raffles Girls School String Ensemble. Owing to his professional guidance, the school had been awarded Gold With Honours for Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) central judging, for three years consecutively. Wan is also a violin teacher in the Yamaha School of Music in Singapore. Recent reports have stated that Wan is taking up ballet schools in Crestar. This had stirred up controversy on why he decided to learn ballet and whether he had decided to give up violin. When questioned about this matter in a recent interview with Wan, he answered, "Many people think that Ballet is for girls only, therefore, I want to prove to others that even men like me can do ballet." Wan had also expressed his intentions to open a ballet and violin school in London. Early life As a child, Wan was disadvanataged for he was monotesticular, as a result, he has a hormonial imbalance and therefore speaks with a female accent, and feels uncomfortable with males around. However, he went against all odds and struggled to cure himself, consulting a psychologist every week. Fortunately, after 3 years of therapy, he had finally recovered. Wan is a man of strength of determination, one which many should see as a role model. Personal life He is married to his wife Wanyu, and has two children, Bruno and Aaron. In his free time, he would bring them out to the beach or the park.
