Bendale Business and Technical Institute shooting

The Bendale Business and Technical Institute shooting was a school shooting that occurred at the Bendale Business and Technical Institute in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on September 16, 2008. A 16-year-old student was shot in the chest in the school's parking lot following an altercation involving several people. The teen was transported to Sunnybrook Hospital in critical condition, where he underwent emergency surgery. The teen, who police believe was the only student from the school involved in the confrontation, was reportedly discovered near the pool inside the school bleeding from at least one gunshot wound. This school along with several other nearby schools including; Donwood Park Public School, David and Mary Thomson Colligiate Insitiute and Highbrook Learning Centre were immediately placed in lockdown mode at around 11:47 a.m. as a precaution but the lockdowns at all of these locations were lifted just before 2:30 p.m.
Arrests
On September 17, 2008, Toronto Police announced they had made arrests of two suspects; 18-year-old Mark Deicsics, charged with robbery while armed with a firearm and fail to comply with recognizance; and a 16-year-old and the victim of the shooting himself, both charged with robbery while armed with a firearm. Their names cannot be released under the limitations in Canada's Youth Criminal Justice Act.
On September 18, 2008 Toronto Police obtained judicial authorization to name a 16-year-old boy wanted in connection with the school shooting at Bendale Business and Technical Institute. The authorization expired on September 23, 2008, and the suspect was arrested on September 29, 2008, after a 16-year-old boy turned himself in to Toronto Police. The boy, whose name cannot be released under the conditions in Canada's Youth Criminal Justice Act has been charged with numerous firearm-related offences, including:
* robbery while armed with a Firearm,
* discharging a firearm, endangering life,
* careless use of a firearm,
* pointing a firearm,
* possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized,
* Aggravated Assault,
* failure to appear in court and,
* failure to comply with a recognizance
