He was the 2010 Democratic nominee for the U.S. Representative for , losing to Republican incumbent Peter Roskam. Early life and education Lowe grew up in Singapore and Malaysia, where his parents were missionaries. While there, he helped organize a national Climate Change Summit. Lowe was a contributing writer on former Wheaton Professor Lindy Scott's 2008 book Christians, the Care of Creation, and Global Climate Change. In 2009, Lowe authored the book Green Revolution: Coming Together to Care for Creation, with a foreword by Christian social activist Shane Claiborne. The book, published by InterVarsity Press, "extensively explores the larger kingdom issues inseparably connected to environmental problems," according to author Jonathan Merritt. Lowe was quoted on Good Morning America as saying that "The environment would be one of those areas where you could say we've almost had … generally speaking … a blind spot in the evangelical church." 2010 U.S. Congressional campaign In May 2010, Lowe and three friends were stopped and frisked for illegal substances by Cicero, Illinois police. Reed Fagan, the driver of the vehicle, filed a complaint accusing the police officers (one of whom was Hispanic) of engaging in racial profiling. According to Fagan, he and his friends were stopped because they looked Hispanic. Lowe is half-Chinese and half-white. According to Fagan, the police officers indicated that there had been some trouble with Hispanics trafficking drugs by the side of the road. Cicero spokesman Ray Hanania said "This very much sounds to me like an obscure candidate for public office, trying to give himself some publicity by attacking the Town of Cicero...”. According to Hanania, the vehicle was initially stopped for speeding, and the ticket issued was for failure to wear a seat belt. Both Fagan and Lowe claimed that the ticket was without merit. On November 2, 2010, Republican incumbent Peter Roskam defeated Democratic nominated challenger Ben Lowe. Peter Roskam received 91,646 to Ben Lowe's 50,949 votes <ref name="pioneerlocal.com"/> Works *"The Greening of Wheaton College: An Unlikely Tree Hugger" and "The Greening of Wheaton College: A Bigger Vision" in Lindy Scott, Christians, the Care of Creation, and Global Climate Change Wipf and Stock, 2008 ISBN 1-55635-844-X *Ben Lowe, Green Revolution: Coming Together to Care for Creation Inter-Varsity Press (March 1, 2009) ISBN 0830836241 ISBN 978-0830836246 206 pages
